Former New Orleans Saints linebacker Ronald Powell died on Monday at the age of 32, the NFL Players Association announced Tuesday.
No cause of death was revealed.
A five-star high school recruit and standout defensive lineman at the University of Florida, Powell was selected by the Saints in the fifth round of the 2014 draft with the pick they received from the Philadelphia Eagles in a trade earlier that year for running back Darren Sproles.
Former Saints teammate Junior Galette mourned Powell's death in a social media post on Monday, calling him "an EXCELLENT FATHER Respected Brother and a Loving Son."
Powell played the 2014 season in New Orleans, appearing in 14 games and recording one solo tackle and one assist. After the Saints released him the following season, he had stints on the practice squads of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears before signing with the Seattle Seahawks in 2016. However, he never played in a game for the Seahawks and was out of the league by 2017.

Powell did make one last return to pro football in 2019, playing for the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football.
